Member Spotlight: Elicia Young, CTCC VISTA at University of New Haven

Elicia Young is a CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Member serving at University of New Haven and working to strengthen the partnership between UNH and the Engineering Science University Magnet School (ESUMS), which provides an at-risk student population with strong technical training and the potential for a successful transition to college. She is promoting and improving access to science, technology, engineering, and math education and careers for minority populations, including African-Americans, Latinos, and women. 2015 Social Justice Leadership Conference

On Saturday, October 31, Connecticut Campus Compact hosted the second annual Social Justice Leadership Conference at Wesleyan University. Bringing together 243 students from 29 organizations, which included 18 CTCC Member campuses, 2 out of state campuses, 1 high school and 8 community partner organizations, the conference was a successful day of workshops, speakers, networking and reflection. The 2015 theme of Unmasking Social Change was designed to provide a framework where students examine their motivations for social justice and service, enhance their understanding of social issues, and increase their capacity and skills to positively impact their campus and community. Overall, the conference created a dedicated…
