Member Spotlight: Anne Hofmeister, CTCC VISTA at Higher Edge
Anne Hofmeister is a CTCC VISTA Member serving at Higher Edge, a nonprofit organization in New London that guides low-income and first-generation students through enrollment, retention, and graduation from college by providing the support and resources needed for success.
A graduate of Wellesley College, Anne spent the past year writing grants for a health advocacy nonprofit. She brought these development skills to her VISTA position at Higher Edge and saw immediate success with her first grant proposal request being awarded: the Edward and Mary Lord Foundation agreed to fund the purchase of new Apple computers for staff and students at Higher Edge. Anne will be sharing her grant writing knowledge with college students during a workshop at the Social Justice Leadership Conference this Saturday, October 31 at Wesleyan University.
Anne has also been involved in the planning and volunteer management for Higher Edge’s 2nd Annual Dancing for Degrees, in partnership with Connecticut College, which will take place on November 21, 2015 at 6 pm. This fundraiser supports local students in their paths to and through college. The evening will include gourmet hors d’oeuvres, basket raffles, a silent auction, and most importantly, the culmination of dance preparation resulting in live showcases with some of the community’s talented leaders, who will each be paired with one of Higher Edge’s students. Following these performances, there will be open dancing for everyone. Learn more about Dancing for Degrees and purchase tickets.
